Autohide keyboard on iPhone up after entering a search

Unlike most iPhone apps, after entering the text for a search, the keyboard remains on the screen until I press "done". See how the keyboard goes away after entering search text on iPeng for example.

This was addressed in update 2.5.0 whereby after 1 second of detected inactivity (no typing) the keyboard would autohide. However, some users have found this frustrating while taking time to type our their search term.
Rather than using a time mechanism to determine, we will modify this in v2.5.5 where the keyboard will hide when hitting 'return/enter' on the keyboard, or when the screen detects movement/selection/scrolling elsewhere on the screen.
This is in line with what some of you have suggested in the comments below and is a slightly more standard or expected behaviour.
How do we feel about that approach instead?

Great, looking forward to that, the current autohide is just hiding too fast for my typing speed.

Autohide is quite good, maybe a second too fast.. maytimes it disapper when i'm typing and thinking about to the correct album/track/artist name.
If anything I can suggest that I find it useful to click on the search button and go back to the last search performed without losing the "history", but I would prefer that on the second touch of the search button the page automatically returns to the top and the cursor positions itself in the search bar box, without having to make unnecessary scrolls.

I also find it good the way it is implemented now. Less touch, the better. In the rare case it hides too quick you can just touch the search area and continue typing.

Wouldn’t it be better if the keyboard hides after the search results your when you start to scroll the search results or tap outside the keyboard? This is how ROON and other apps work. I think this would be the most intuitive way. Aren’t there any iOS coding guide lines to follow regarding this?

I tried the auto hide feature yesterday and it really annoys me in the way I search. It’s way to quick in removing the keyboard.

It will depend on your use case. If you know what to search it’s probably fine. If you, like me, often have people spell out an artist/track I’m not fast enough to get the input before the keyboard evaporates.

More time or removing it when clicking “OK” or outside the keyboard is ideal to me.

Auto hide good now as is.

After the update we had a number of users indicating they didn't like the autohide as it was too quick. What's your opinion on this? Do you like how it is at the moment? An alternative would be to hide the keyboard only after touching outside the keyboard area. Would this be preferable to you? Personally, I do like how it is as in the majority of the situations it just works automatically to show me the full screen without having to touch anything but happy to change the behavior in a future update if you feel this can be improved. I do believe adding more time is not the solution as eventually you want to see the results and then you having to wait a few more seconds becomes frustrating IMO.
Your comments will be most welcome.

It’s great as it is

Hi. Indeed adding more time is not the solution. It is a bit surprising how the keyboard disappear sometimes before I write all the text for the search but it it much better than before. Actually, both the old way and the new are non-standard. The ideal would be the way it works on iPeng and other apps: the keyboard autohides when you either hit the search button at bottom of the keyboard or when you select one of the results that appears. I suggest checking out the iPeng method.

It is perfect now with the new quick clear option.

Hi Nuno, I would say it's "good enough" the way it is now so the development team may focus on other MUCH needed improvements.

This is still happening... Pretty much all iPhone apps autohide the keyboard... When I do a search for example, the results are only visible after manually hiding the keyboard...

the same on Android
