Make the release year of an album more visible.

OK

Today the release year of an album is only shown on the single album screen but not on the album overview screen, queue screen or 'now playing' screen.

I would like to have the release year more visible preferably in all screen modes.

New Sense user here. Agreed .. would very much like to see the release year when looking at a particular artists Album page. This was something I appreciated when using JPLAY before I got my PulseMini and I wish it was a feature in Sense.

Agree. And a month field would be great to retain chronological order when there is more than one release in a year.

I'm not sure if adding the release month would add much value. For 99.9% of all purchased or streamed files, only the release year is specified in the metadata.

And even if you plan to manually add the release month to the metadata, it's hardly possible because this information is very difficult to find. Websites like Discogs.com and Allmusic.com only provide the year .

I have more than 5,000 albums and have the month of release for 90% of these. I currently use a Tag to identify the month.
I could easily sort by Month in my previous database (JRiver).
Sense is more than a music player to me, and many others I’m sure. It is my record collection and I would like to sort it appropriately.

I'm sorry if my comment sounded patronizing to you. Of course, each of us has certain desires, and it's Innuos' job to filter out the ones that will benefit as many users as possible.

For me personally, it would be out of the question to look up the release months of every album and enter them manually into the metadata, as the effort and benefit are not in any meaningful proportion for me. As I said before, I don't even know of a database in which the release month could be found.

In my experience, it is already more than enough work to correct the often incorrect metadata in newly ripped or downloaded files.

In the absence of a clear metadata standard, each record label and metadata provider follows its own logic. For a smooth use of Innuos Sense, I always check the metadata with a tool like mp3tag before putting music files into the main archive.

No. Your comment didn't sound patronizing at all.
I enjoy the research involved in keeping my collection up-to-date. It's important that I have original release dates and artwork for vintage releases, for example.
I did a trial on Roon, where sorting by month is an option. But there's not much else I ilke about that particular application!

Totally agree! My use case: when I discover a new artist, I use the release dates to search for the first or last albums depending on context

Could you describe a little deeper how this helps or what this would achieve for you? For example, does this help to better distinguish different versions of the same album from one another?

O

OK

As a jazz aficionado, I find the release date important in order to place an album in its historical context. My personal listening ritual often starts with looking up the release date. So being able to see it at a glance without having to look it up would be a great ergonomic improvement.

For example, I have more than 30 albums by Thelonious Monk in my collection. To date, I am neither able to see an overview of these albums showing the release dates, nor is there an option to sort the albums by release date. Changing this would make the Sense App even better.

Thank you for clarifying, this seems fair. More sorting options is something we are looking at also to help with this. Will leave topic open for voting.
