We can integrate BBC Sounds into innuOS via the Logitech Media Server plugin and it would show as a service on Radio, similar to Radio Paradise. Do vote on this if you're interested in this feature.

Fantastic! Works great. Pretty easy to add "under the hood". Keep up the good work and looking forward to the full BBC Sounds API integration but in the meantime this is great.

Got mine working after the 3rd reboot but lack of search is a let down. Browsing is painful.

Hi Mike, that's interesting, does it not provide the full LMS plugin menu that includes a search and looks like this :

Looks like this.

Ah, I see, Innuos must be restricting the functionality of the LMS plugin for some reason.

Avatar

Mike Hughes

By losing the single most essential feature?

Avatar

Stuart Mclean

Seems so.

Avatar

I had assumed that in my brief struggle to get the plug in live (three reboots not one) I had perhaps missed a setting on the LMS page. Presumably not.

Same here with BBC Sounds in Sense, no Search tab.

N

Nuno Vitorino

At this stage we did not include the search functionality, only the ability to browse the options. Our UI is not an LMS skin so it will not automatically show all options provided by any plugin. As explained, this is supposed to be a quick way to enable our users to be able to listen to BBC Sounds.

Hi Nuno

I'm the main developer and distributor of the LMS BBC Sounds plugin to the LMS community.

It is great to see you making open source software available to your customers.
This plugin has been developed (with not inconsiderable effort) for free for the wonderful LMS community to contribute to the aspiration of keeping their devices integrated with as many modern services as possible.

I had noticed that you had been trailing that you would provide the BBC Sounds LMS plugin to your customers for the last 8 months, but I had assumed that you would be distributing an amended version of the software yourselves, which the gplv3 license allows and encourages you to do.
As I am the one distributing the plugin to your customers I am disappointed that you hadn't contacted me with your intentions. Feel free to contact me, my email address is in the plugins license information.

Regards

Stuart

Hi Stuart, will certainly contact you and happy to talk.

Hi, we have done an article here on how to setup BBC Sounds:

innuos.com/kb/connect-your-bbc-sounds-account/

Regarding why this is done "under the hood", this is because the functionality is provided by LMS as a 3rd party plugin. Our objective is to integrate BBC Sounds directly with innuOS at some point using the BBC Sounds API but this would require a lot more development time. By doing a simpler integration with what LMS offers, we can have our users enjoying BBC Sounds sooner. While it may be a bit cluncky to configure, it's a one time job and you can then use directly on innuOS.

Given also this is a 3rd party plugin, we cannot guarantee that it doesn't break or the feature is removed without prior notice. This is why we do not advertise this as an innuOS feature. This is similar to the Spotify Connect integration currently available.

Hope this makes sense.

Nuno

Hi Nuno - thanks for getting back to me on that, I’ll try it out … as I’m using my LAN attached Naim Atom / Naim app as my player and i can’t (or won’t) be using Sense as the main player until you have the upgrade ready to use Sense as the player for upnp attached devices

Thanks for pushing ahead with all the fixes & updates - your close involvement is appreciated as always

Cheers, J

Am a bit confused. Why isn’t the process to add BBC Sounds in the Sense app under “Settings” … why the need to go “under the hood” into LMS to do this ??

M

Ponkbutler

The link in the message sent out about this being implemented takes one to personal settings only and not here.

Integration of BBC Sounds would be a significant addition which I would use on a daily basis

As noted in 2.0.9, "the BBC plugin can now be enabled" but yet the update status remains "in progress". Are we to read that the final touches still need to be completed?

M

Hi Trev
You need to enable the plug in in LMS.
Go to ipaddress:9000/default.
The ipaddress above is substituted by the ip of your server.
Go to settings (bottom right)
Click on plug ins (across top)
Scroll down to 3rd party plug ins
Tick BBC sounds
Click apply (bottom right)
The bbc sounds app should now be listed as a active plug in
Click settings at right hand side of app
At top of page should be a tick box which says “Place in the "Radio" menu instead of the default "My Apps" menu. Requires a restart of LMS”
Make sure this box is ticked and then click apply at bottom right of page.
Restart your server & bbc sounds should appear in the sense app under Music-radio services- next to radio Paradise
It worked for me.

Trev

Cheers, going yo try that now

Hi mg55, Thanks a ton for this. I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly for me. Am enjoying all my subscribed programmes already

Avatar

To enable the plug-in in LMS is that within Sense, I can’t see it, or is it in another app entirely?

Thanks D

BBC Sounds plugin can now be enabled on LMS - Instructions on how to do this would be useful

Avatar

Mike Hughes

Working on getting this up and running now 2.0.9 is out. It’s not obvious. Could we have some instructions please? I’ve enabled the plug in inside LMS as best I can tell but there’s nothing appearing in Sense.

Yep i'm up for this. I spend alot of time listening to 6Music so this feature would benefit me. Also the ability to search for and play historical sessions via the App

A

AJP

An excellent idea

D

Denis

I agree that this would be an excellent feature to add.

The 320 kbps/48Khz feed from BBC Sounds has a nice quality on hifi. It is a good improvement over the standard 128kbps feed from the BBC. This would be a nice feature to have in Innuos Sense.

A

AJP

This would be a super development

N

Nick Wilson

I am strongly in favour of BBC Sounds integration, thanks in anticipation

S

SEM

This would be good as BBC Radio Wales is missing from the current list. Steve Maddison 26/10/21.

Yes please. Had this activated before the software update and used it constantly

V

With lots of searching have found radio 3 (weirdly in world stations but not in music) but sounds app is v nice to use and miss all the features

I

IainB

Yes please. BBC radio stations at the very least.

R

I had BBC sound before the update to Sense, I would very much like it back as I use it a lot. It was the deciding factors in my purchase of a Zen Mini

On the whole, I've has a very positive experience using the app. A big thank you to your team for all your hard work. Any movement on the provision of bbc sounds?

Avatar

andrew forgham

Yes please. I had been hoping for bbc sounds support.

D

David

Being able to access BBC Sounds to call back programmes would be a real bonus

Avatar

I use Sounds a lot, so a big thumbs up from me.

N

Nick Bacon

It would be a great addition to add in support for BBC Sounds and is something I had been hoping for.

Avatar

Trev

A very big second for the BBC SOUNDS App. This was one of the features I used frequently on my SB radios. Nuno kindly remotely installed these for me earlier this year. I really miss this facility

N

Nuno Vitorino

Merged with: BBC Radio Wales

Avatar

Mike Hughes

I cannot acces either stream for this despite other BBC channels being available. There is a Welsh labgisge stream and one which does live sport. None of them are listed.

M

mg55

would you be able to enable "listen again" feature
