List feature

The Album/Artist pages desperately needs a list feature with smaller icons and title txt so we can see more items on one page. Scrolling through your entire library of music on a phone with just four icons on every screen is extremely time consuming. Every other music control App i have (Orange Squeeze, Bubbleupnp etc) has this feature.

Hi Nuno and team, I would like to know if this feature is being considered for development please ?

I've waited over 2 years for this functionality and it's still no nearer to being implemented. Like Xavier has mentioned, this is a deal breaker for me and this along with other issues I've had with the app has led me to look for alternative options to my Zen.

Sorry to hear about your frustration James. It’s a pity that such a basic feature and, such a simple thing to implement, drew you away from the brand.
Hardware is amazing, no doubt about that. And Nuno is doing amazing in this department.
Now, it appears that more investment and more attention on the software side would be required. Sense has a lot of potential but is still a very “young” application, lacking a certain maturity if I can say so. I see there is an awful lot to to do and I sincerely hope Innuos will bring the necessary manpower in order to make those MUCH needed improvements.

I also consider the fact of not being to browse albums by list (additionally to the current cover art view) to be one of the biggest flaws of the Sense app. Almost a deal breaker for me, honestly. I have been using many other apps in the past and all of them had such a feature. See, as an example, a view from “DS Audio” from Synology. See attached screenshot. Why is this so important? Most of us do have several versions of the same album. The list view brings the details of the different releases, this is a CRUCIAL feature really. I sincerely hope this comes VERY soon.

And, again, the idea is not to replace the current Cover Art thumbnail view but rather adding an alternative option to browse by list.

On the iOS Sense app, particularly on iPhones, it can be difficult, especially with classical box sets, to work out which pieces are associated with a given "disc" since the album art is the same for all and that is the only info displayed. Having the option of line-by-line info displaying miniaturised album art at the beginning of the line followed by more detailed information would make this much easier than having to thumb the more info icon, which sometimes goes wrong (due to clumsiness), interrupting play of the current piece....

Merged with: Cellphone option for line display with miniaturised album art and detailed text line of album info

List views, especially combined with more powerful filters (such as composers or conductors for Classical Music for example) would be very useful

Ideally you should be able to browse Albums and Artists as a list in order to be able to view more on a page. Currently scrolling through such large icons (only 4 pp) is very time consuming.

Merged with: List view

What about a list view? Or it does exist, and I haven’t yet discovered it? The fact is that if someone has over 7.000+ artists and try to find a particular in alphabetical order in icon view is very frustrating and time consumption.

Our approach would be more to use search if you do know what you are looking for. Even on a list, if you have a lot of music, it's still annoying to go manually I would recon?

Hi Nuno, 'Use search if you don't know what you're looking for'? I'm not sure that makes sense; you can't search for anything is you don't know what you're looking for.

I don't understand why this would be difficult to implement. Just give the user an option of a list view rather than large icons. Most of the time i'm looking for inspiration when playing an album and as i said all the other music play back apps i have use include this feature and on some it's even default display. This becomes even more useful if you use the Innuos App on the phone as i do and not a tablet.

I did mean use search if you KNOW what you're looking for, apologies! This is not difficult to implement but it is a matter of not cluttering the UI with lots of options that makes it confusing to use. This has always been one of the main critics we had from iPeng/Orange Squeeze, with users demanding we create our own app. If we start adding all the same options, it will be just as cluttered... Having a list, whilst better that what exists, still doesn't really resolve the issue of being able to look for inspiration for music to play, this is why we were looking more at views like filters or Smart Mixes to try and solve that. So don't get me wrong, we are not "opposed" but we do want to ensure we are resolving the right issue before cluttering the UI wit more options. This is also why we have released this feature request for the community to comment and vote for it.

No problem Nuno. I just realised you were actually referring to another comment and not specifically mine so that's where the confusion was regarding the 'search' option.

A filter whilst useful, again, is really aimed at someone trying to find something specific or within a particular category and therefore doesn't help when looking for inspiration. The sheer number of tags for instance can make this feature confusing in itself.

I believe a list feature can be implemented without too much clutter on the page. It's a simple icon which denotes either a list or large icon display.

Whilst i understand you are trying to move away from some of the superfluous features seen in previously available Squeeze apps there are certain elements that a user has come to expect when trying to browse or locate items in a catalogue online. A list view would be high on my list.

Are you just browsing or looking for a specific album/artist? You can use search (even with partial words) to go to a specific album/artist. Additionally, you have the A-Z index to go to a specific letter. Do you still see a case for having a list view in this case?

Avatar

Just browsing. Most of the time I'm not looking for an artist or album. I just want to easily flick through my albums and pick something at random. It's impossible to do this with only 4 icons on a page. At least have an option to list view.

Hi Nuno, please see my comment above to support an important use case of a list view.
